Getting Start with Swift

by Admin OSMiUM, November 15, 2014

I gave you a brief idea about swift from my previous SWIFT PROGRAMMING post. Apple released the Swift Programming Language Book and it’s free and contains a wealth of information on the language. Furthermore you can download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device. However, the reference guide is too long. So I think this may be helpful for you to getting started with Swift.

Swift is an innovative new programming language and I have never seen a programming language like that. You know why? Because it provide an interactive working environment called a playground. In the playgrounds, you can type a line of code and the result appears immediately.

Let’s start to working with playground. Open Xcode, select FileNew Playground…, select the iOS platform and save the file wherever you like:

Also you can get started with a playground from Welcome to Xcode window.

Playground is a single file as follows.

Another thing in playground is, if you want to see the debugging output you can select the View/Assistant Editor/Show Assistant Editor menu option:

I hope now you can play with Swift playground well. So play and enjoy now… :)
